Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
What are your rates?
$165 per 50-minute session
What forms of payment do you accept?
I do not accept insurance directly. However, if you have a plan that offers out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with the necessary documentation (a “superbill”) to submit for potential reimbursement. It’s your responsibility to check with your insurance provider to see if my services are eligible for out-of-network coverage.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. You will be responsible for the entire fee if cancellation is less than 24 hours.
How often do we meet?
Therapy is like exercise; you get the best results with consistency. Therapy takes time, and in my experience, people are best able to do this work when therapy is a weekly commitment.
I offer a free phone consultation before scheduling an initial appointment. It is important to assess whether or not we’d work well together.
How long can I expect to be in therapy?
There isn’t a simple answer to this. People’s experiences vary greatly from one person to the next.
How is somatic psychotherapy different from talk therapy?
While traditional talk therapy focuses primarily on thoughts, stories, and behaviors, somatic psychotherapy goes a step further—by also listening to what your body is saying.
Our bodies carry the imprint of our experiences, especially those that were overwhelming or unresolved. You might notice tension in your shoulders, a knot in your stomach, or a racing heart, even when your mind feels “fine.” These sensations aren’t random—they’re your nervous system communicating with you.
But here’s something important: It’s not unusual at all if you don’t notice much in your body at first. Many of us have learned to tune out or disconnect from physical sensations as a way to cope. Somatic work offers a gentle invitation back into connection—at your own pace, and with care.
It’s not about forcing anything or reliving the past. It’s about helping your nervous system complete what it never got to finish, so you can feel more grounded, present, and whole.
Do I have to do body based work?
Not at all. While I specialize in somatic psychotherapy, every session is tailored to you. Some clients start with talk therapy and gradually become curious about body-based practices, while others prefer to stay with conversation and reflection. There's no one right way to heal—your comfort and readiness always lead the way.
What if I don't feel anything during a session?
That’s totally okay—and incredibly common. Many of us have learned to disconnect from our bodies and emotions as a way of getting through life. In somatic work, there’s no pressure to “feel something” right away. We move slowly, with curiosity and care, and I’ll support you in building the internal safety needed to begin noticing and trusting your sensations—if and when they arise. There is no wrong way to show up.
Do I need to talk about trauma for this to work?
No. You’re in charge of what you share, and healing doesn’t require retelling painful stories. Somatic work often allows us to connect with what’s happening beneath the story—what your body has held, even when words are hard to find. Sometimes deep shifts happen not through talking, but through simply noticing, breathing, and being present together.
